She set her water down on a nearby bench and slung her towel over the bar on the stairmaster. Settling the headphones on her ears and closing her eyes she pumped the volume up and began to lose herself in the hypnotic beat of The Smith's I Am Human.
With her eyes closed she hadn't noticed the pale, slender, purple haired man who had been watching her every move like a hawk. He silently sauntered over to her and eyed her up and down before he reached out and pulled the headphones off her ears.
"Those things'll make you go deaf," he said in a lilting southern drawl causing her to jump. "You're the new girl," he said with a sly smile.
The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end and her heart rate quickened even more than it already was. Looking into his piercing green eyes she found herself unable to answer him. She finally managed to break his gaze and shake herself out of the daze. "Yes, I'm the new girl," she said stepping off the stairmaster and grabbing her towel. She accepted her water that he handed her. "My name's Shelly and you're..."
"Jeff," he replied with that same sly smile. "Jeff Hardy. I'm looking forward to seeing you in the ring. Just a word of advice," he said and glanced around the room as if he sensed something or someone had entered. "Stay away from certain unsavory characters."
Shelly swabbed her forehead with the towel and said, "And who might they be?" By the time she looked up he was gone. "Freaky much," she mumbled and moved on to the next machine.
In the shadows four figures stood watching the activities of the gym. Their eyes glowed a deep crimson.
"I don't like her Eric," the older platinum blonde one said.
"I don't either Ric," the black haired one addressed as Eric replied. "That's why my boys here have recruited some of the underworld's finest to keep her and her new friend in check." He motioned toward two men who looked more like mountains with gleaming red eyes.
"She's going to ruin our plans master," Ric whined.
Eric took Ric's face in his hands and smiled wickedly at him. "No, she won't my loyal servant. Now go find me someone to feed on. I'm starved." With that he shoved Ric to the ground.
"S'all been arranged master," Ric replied stumbling to his feet. "Rosie, Jamal," he called the large men. "Bring her in."
They left and returned moments with a struggling woman in their grasp.
"Ah," Eric chuckled. "Dawn Marie. Do not fear child. It won't hurt...much."
"You're a sick bastard," she spat as she was shoved at his feet.
Eric's eyes blazed and he pulled her up by her hair. "You're so fiesty," he said in a mocking tone. "Those are the one's that taste the best." In the blink of an eye he snapped her neck and proceeded to devour her soul.
"What's going on," Shelly asked seeing a crowd outside the gym she had just been in only hours ago.
"Dawn Marie was found dead," a woman with flaming red hair replied. "Hey, you're the new girl right?"
"Yeah. I'm Shelly."
"Amy," replied the redhead.
"Any news on how it happened," Shelly asked.
"Her neck was snapped and her eyes were missing," Amy replied and then looked around to make sure no one was listening. "I hear some kind of symbols were drawn around the body in her own blood."
"What kind of symbols," Shelly asked furrowing her brow.
"Ritualistic," Amy replied in a hushed tone. "You have some free time?" Shelly nodded. "Good. I want you to see some stuff." She led Shelly back to her hotel room where she pulled up a website on her laptop. "I haven't seen the symbols from Dawn Marie yet, but I think they'll look like this." She turned the laptop to face Shelly where a picture of bloody scrawling symbols were pictured.
"Freaky," Shelly said staring at the screen. "How can you be sure that that's what they'll look like?"
"I can't, but there have been three other murders just like this one," Amy replied. "These symbols have been at everyone of them."
"But what does it mean," Shelly asked.
"I've been researching it in my free time and I think it's a form of ancient Sanskrit," Amy replied. "Roughly translated it means somthing evil this way comes. It's a warning."
"A warning of evil coming," Shelly said mulling it over in her mind. "Great. That narrows it down to about half the WWE roster." Amy half smiled at her. "So, now the question is how do we stop this?"
"That I don't know," Amy replied with a frown. "All I know is that the WWE is covering up the murders."
"How?"
"Remember Buff Bagwell, Steve Austin and Road Dogg," Amy asked. Shelly nodded. "They didn't quit and they weren't fired, they were victimes one, two and three....and now Dawn Marie makes four."
"But why cover it up?"
"Not good for business when fans find out someone or something is killing off WWE employees one by one."
"This is really creepy," Shelly said as she scanned the pictures of the other crime scenes. "They all had their necks snapped, their eyes removed and those symbols." She glanced at her watch. "Shit," she muttered. "I have a meeting with Eric Biscoff. I better get going. I'd like to get together later and see what we can come up with about this."
"Sure thing, but...what can we do," Amy asked.
"I don't know, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna wind up one some baddy's list of victims," Shelly replied. "I'll give you a call before I come."
"I'll see what else I can pull up on these murders," Amy said as Shelly left the room.
Shelly walked down the hall to the elevator. As she waited for it to come to her floor she felt as if someone or something was watching her. Looking around she saw no one in the hall. "It's just the pictures," she mumbled to herself. "Calm down."
"What pictures," the unmistakable drawl of Jeff Hardy asked. Shelly looked up into his green eyes and felt hypnotized for a moment.
"Amy's been following some murders. She showed me some pictures she found on the net," Shelly replied as the elevator dinged and opened. "You coming," she called as she got on the elevator. She glanced at the mirrored wall and then over her shoulder in disbelief. Jeff was nowhere to be seen. "He has got to stop doing that!"
Shelly arrived at Eric Bischoff's door moments later and took a deep breath before knocking on the door. To her surprise Triple H answered the door. He smirked and eyed her up and down, taking in her form fitting jeans and pink sweatshirt. His eyes rested on her full breasts and his smirk turned into a full smile. Feeling suddenly self conscious she folded her arms across her chest and said, "I have an appointment with Eric Bischoff."
"Of course you do," he said smirking again.
"Hunter," a woman's voice called from behind him. "Who's there?" A woman with long blonde hair streaked with crimson poked her head out and she spotted Shelly standing there. "Let her in you oaf," she grumbled elbowing Hunter in the ribs. "Eric is waiting for her." She shoved Hunter out of the way, surprisingly strong for her small frame, and motioned for Shelly to come in. 'Why do I feel like a lamb being led to the slaughter?' she thought to herself as she was ushered inside. "I'm Lacey, but everyone calls me Trouble."
"Shelly," she replied and looked around the room awkwardly. "I'm the new girl." She noticed that Ric Flair, Rosie and Jamal were all sitting in the room. Her eyes finally came to where Eric Bischoff sat on the bed. "Maybe I should come back some other time. You look like you're busy."
"No," Eric said smiling from ear to ear. "You've already met Hunter and Lacie and I'm sure you know Ric Flair and these are my boys Rosie and Jamal," he said motioning to his companions. "And I'm sure you're well acquainted with Jeff Hardy." Shelly's eyes scanned the room and spotted Jeff being held in the corner by Rosie and Jamal.
"Jeff," she said noticing that there was blood running down his forehead and chin. Rosie and Jamal dumped him onto the floor in a heap and went back to Eric's side. Shelly ran to Jeff's side and propped his head on her lap. "What'd they do to you?" She glared up and Eric. "Why? Why did you do this?"
"Let's just say that Mr Hardy has been overstepping his bounds lately. He got what he deserved. Now if you don't want to wind up like your friend here you'll do what I tell you to do when I tell you to do it."
"What gives you the right to threaten me," Shelly said defiantly.
"What gives me the right," Eric mocked and closed the gap between them in seconds. "You're my employee and that's what gives me the right."
Shelly stood and glared in his face. "Don't ever threaten me again."
"What are you going to do about it," Eric said and slapped her across the face with such force she fell to the floor. She heard an animalistic growl and moments later she looked up to see Jeff fending off Rosie, Jamal, Ric and Eric.
Before she could think she was attacked from behind by Lacie. Without thinking she flipped Lacie onto the floor and seeing an opening grabbed Jeff and pulled him out of the room.
They ran down the hall as fast as they could and into a supply closet. They both leaned against the wall and slid to the floor panting. "All right," Shelly finally said. "What the hell is going on here?"
"Remember when I warned you against certain unsavory characters," Jeff asked wincing as he felt the gash on his forehead. Shelly nodded. "That's who I meant." He groaned as he looked at his bloody fingers.
"Let me see that," Shelly said kneeling in front of him. Her eyes went wide as she saw the gash start to heal on it's own. "What...what...what the hell are you," she stuttered as she stumbled back away from him.
"Don't," he said grabbing her wrist. "Please. I won't hurt you. I swear."
"You healed right before my eyes," she mumbled.
"I'm...not like you," Jeff said looking away.
"You can say that again," she said. He sighed loudly and stood up. "I'm sorry," she said standing too. "I just....act like an idiot when I'm nervous or scared. What are you?" She reached out and touched his face, he pulled away. "Please. I want to know. Look I'll be honest with you. I felt some sort of connection with you from the first day we met. Please tell me."
"You want to know what I am," Jeff asked softly, still not looking at her. "This is what I am." He turned to face her and his face had changed. Long fangs protruded from his mouth and his eyes glowed a menacing green. Shocked to see the transformation Shelly gasped and backed up against the door, fumbling with the knob. "Don't," he said changing to his human form again. "I swear I won't hurt you." He pulled her away from the door.
"But you're a..."
"Yes, a vampire," he said. "I know what you've heard about vampires, but I'm different."
Shelly broke free from his grasp. "How can you be?"
"I have a soul," he replied. She continued to look at him with doubt. "It happened a long time ago when my brother Matt and I were first sired. We were horrible. We left death and decay behind us wherever we went. Then one day slaughtered a family, it was a huge mistake. The mother was a powerful sorceress. Matt managed to get away, but I didn't. With her dying breath the mother cursed me. She wanted me to know all the pain that I inflicted on people. She wanted me to suffer for eternity."
"How long have you been suffering," Shelly asked.
"Hundreds of years. I lost count after a while," Jeff replied.
"How do you...um...I mean...you can't kill anymore can you?"
"I survive on pig's blood mostly," Jeff replied. Shelly crinkled her nose. "It's no replacement for the real thing, but I can't feed on humans anymore. With the exception of when I'm in the ring I try to avoid human contact."
"That's no way to live," Shelly said touching his cheek. "Never having any friends, never knowing love." Jeff pulled away from her touch. "You poor thing," she said taking his hand and placing it over her heart.
"Shelly," he gulped. "Please don't. I can't."
"It's all right Jeff," Shelly said taking his hand and placing soft kisses in the palm. "I knew from the moment I met you that there was something different about you. Something that made you special." She took his face in her hands and kissed his lips softly. "I'm glad that you confided in me," she said smiling. He smiled and she kissed him again. He ran his tongue along her lips before he parted her lips and snaked it into her mouth. His tongue twined with hers as the kiss became more and more passionate.
He finally broke the kiss and looked away breathless. "What is it," she asked also breathless. "Jeff," she said taking his shoulder and turning him toward her. She jumped back when she realized that the manacing green eyes were back.
"I'm sorry," he said regaining his composure. "It's been a long time." She offered an awkward smile. He went to the door and listened a moment. "I think they gave up. Let's go." She nodded and took his hand.
"I should go back to Amy," Shelly said as they rode the elevator down. "She was doing some research."
"Research," Jeff asked.
"On the murders," she replied and found Amy's door. Jeff nodded already knowing what she was talking about and followed her to the room.
Shelly knocked on the door and waited impatiently for Amy to open the door. "Shell," Amy said and then saw Jeff. "Jeff," she said as she scanned the both of them. She noted that Shelly's hair was toussled and that Jeff's clothes looked rumpled.
"Sorry I didn't call first, but...um....we need to talk." Amy nodded and stepped aside. Shelly entered, but Jeff lingered at the door. "What's wrong," Shelly asked turning around to see him standing in the doorway.
"Um...you need to invite me in," he replied. Amy quirked her brow at him and then looked to Shelly. Shelly motioned for her to humor him.
"Come on in," Amy said still confused. Jeff entered the room and took a seat next to Shelly on the end of the bed. "What's going on here," Amy asked noticing how close the two sat.
"It's a long story," Shelly said running her fingers through her hair. It was then that Amy noticed the scratches across Shelly's cheek and forehead.
"What happened," Amy asked pointing to the scratches.
"Bischoff's meeting or should I say ambush," Shelly replied. Amy's eyes went wide. "Something strange is going on with him. There's something about him I don't like. Flair, Rosie and Jamal give me the heebies too." She felt her cheek and winced. "Damn that Lacie, she's got claws not nails. And Hunter," she suddered at the thought of his eyes raking over her body. "He's a creep and a half."
"You're telling me that Lacie and Hunter are in with Eric too," Amy asked as she grabbed some peroxide from the bathroom.
"There's a lot more to it than that," Jeff said softly. Shelly and Amy both looked at him, waiting for him to elaborate. "I can't say for sure, but my gut is telling me that something bad is coming." Shelly and Amy exchanged glances and Shelly sighed loudly.
"You better show him what you dug up so far," Shelly said as she went into the bathroom to clean up her scratches. Amy pulled out her laptop and started to go over the facts with Jeff.
"So," Amy said softly while Shelly was still in the bathroom. "You going to explain why I had to invite you in here and what's going on between you and Shelly?"
"It's complicated," Jeff replied.
"Sum it up for me," Amy replied.
"I can do that," Shelly said having heard the whole conversation. "He's a vampire who's been cursed to suffer for all eternity. He has a soul," she said. "As for what's going on between us...that's not so easy to explain."
Amy smirked at them both. "So you're the one I've read about," she said to Jeff. Shelly gave her a quizzical look. "Nero the powerful," Amy said. "I should have made the connection. You kept the name Nero, but made it your middle name. There's accounts going back centuries on his actions all through Europe."
"That's great," Shelly said. "But we really need to get back to the subject at hand. Something strange is going on with Bischoff and his cronies."
"I searched the net, but I didn't find anything else on the murders. As for Bischoff....he's always seemed a bit off to me."
"This is serious," Shelly said. "He nearly killed Jeff and I."
"I'll see what I can dig up on him," Amy said. "That's going to take hours, maybe days. I'll work as quickly as I can."
"All right," Shelly said sighing. "I better get to my room. I have a Divas photoshoot in the morning."
"I'll walk you to your room," Jeff said standing. They said their goodbyes to Amy and left.
"You really don't have to walk me to my room," Shelly said as they waited for the elevator. "I'm a big girl."
"I know," Jeff said smiling as the entered the elevator. "I just like being with you." Shelly smiled and stood on tippytoes to kiss him.
"Well, isn't that sweet," a southern drawl and an evil laugh cut through the silence. Shelly and Jeff broke the kiss and spun around. They were greeted by the sight of two vampires staring at them.
"Matt," Jeff said with venom in his voice. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"A little birdy told me that my dear little brother found some fresh meat," Matt replied.
"She's not up to your usual standards," the female vampire said smiling wickedly. "What happened to that little blonde one you had. She was quite....sweet."
"You know damn well what happened to her, Mystic," Jeff growled.
"What's wrong Jeff," Matt sneered. "You seem...tense."
"Maybe I should give him a little massage," Mystic said smiling wickedly as she snaked her arms across his chest and neck.
"Keep your hands off of him," Shelly said shoving the other woman. Mystic hissed at her and lunged for her, but Matt held her back.
"All in good time my sweet," he said pulling her against his muscular chest and kissing her cheek. "We'll have her all in good time." The elevator dinged to a stop and the vampires left.
"Let me guess," Shelly said. "Friends of yours?"
"My brother and his soul mate," Jeff replied.
"Lovely couple. We should all double date one night," she replied dryly.
"Let's get you to your room," Jeff said taking her hand and leading the way.
"This is me," Shelly said when they got to her room. "Thanks for walking with me." Jeff smiled at her and leaned down, placing a soft kiss on her lips. His hands snaked around her waist, pulling her closer to his body as he deepened the kiss. She melted into his body as their kiss became more and more heated.
They were so engrossed in the kiss that they didn't notice the room door open and Shelly's room mate for the night come out into the hall until she cleared her throat.
"Kim," Shelly said blushing when they had broken the kiss. "What's wrong?" She hadn't known the other woman long, but she knew that something was bothering her.
"It's Adam," she said sighing. "We had a huge fight and he left."
"I'm sure you'll make up. I mean you fight all the time right?"
"That's not what I'm worried about," Kim said.
Shelly looked at Jeff and said, "I'll see you tomorrow." He nodded and kissed her cheek before leaving. "Come on," Shelly said putting an arm around the other woman's shoulders and leading her into the room. "What's got you so upset?"
"I can't reach Adam at all," Kim said as tears sprang to her eyes. "He doesn't answer his cell, no one's in his room and no one's seen him all night."
Shelly frowned, fearing that he'd wind up being victim number five. "Maybe he's out getting drunk. You know how guys are. We'll check on him in the morning. For now let's try not to worry. All right?" Kim nodded as the tears streaked down her cheeks. "There's something else. What is it honey?"
"I..I...tried a spell to find where he is and..."
"And what?"
"I can't find him anywhere...it's like he totally disappeared." She broke down into sobs. "I...know...we...fight...but...I can...usually....find him....with a...spell."
"We'll find him," Shelly promised as she hugged the sobbing woman. "We will." She was about to call Jeff's cell phone when there was a knock at the door. She opened the door and to her surprise Jeff was standing there. "I was just about to call you."
"I know," he said and pulled her out into the hall. "It's Adam."
"Is he all right," Shelly asked. "Kim's worried sick about him."
"I'm afraid not," Jeff said.
"He's not...dead...is he," she asked softly.
"Well...."
"Jeff. Tell me. What's wrong with him if he's not dead?"
"He's not exactly dead," Jeff said. "He's um....."
"He's what," Shelly asked and then she realized what he was saying. "Who did it? Who made him a vampire Jeff? Was it your brother and his sleazy girlfriend?"
"No," Jeff said. "It's worse than that. It was Raven."
"Raven," Shelly repeated. "But why?"
"He doesn't need a reason to do anything. He does as he pleases."
"I'll kill him," Shelly said.
"You can't," Jeff said grasping her shoulders tightly. "He's very powerful."
"I have to do something," Shelly said. "That poor woman in there is hysterical because she can't find her boyfriend. What am I supposed to tell her? It's all right. Adam'll turn up. Oh and ya might wanna wear turtlenecks from now on or else he'll suck you dry?"
"I understand that you're upset, but if you go after Raven you'll end up worse off than Adam," Jeff said. Shelly sighed deeply. "The last person to try to take him on is six feet under right now. The only way that the family could identify him was through dental records. I don't think I could stand it if you wound up like that." Shelly looked up into his green eyes and saw the sincerity of his words. She leaned her head on his chest.
"How is it possible that in just a day you feel like this about me," she asked. "And how is it possible that I feel exactly the same way about you?" He wrapped his arms around her and held her a moment before she pulled away. "What about Kim? What do I tell her?"
"You have to tell her the truth," Jeff said. "I know it seems harsh, but she has to know the truth."
"All right," Shelly said with a heavy sigh. She gave him a kiss and went back into her room. Jeff lingered just long enough to hear Kim's distraught cry.
"Poor girl," he mumbled before he made his way to his own room.
"Scoooottttyyyyyy," Nidia whined as she lay in his arms and ran her fingers over his many tattoos. "I'm bored."
Scott chuckled and kissed her temple. "You're always bored my love."
"That's because we're always stuck down here in these dreary basements," Nidia pouted. "Couldn't we just go to a club and dance or terrorize the stupid mortals?"
"You know what those bright flashing strobe lights in those clubs do to your pretty little head," Scott replied as he tousseled her hair. "And we just terrorized a mortal. I've told you before that we can't do more than one a night or people will get suspicious."
"But Adam didn't satisfy me," Nidia said and pouted more.
"That's because you're insatiable," Scott said and captured her lips in a fiery kiss. "I think I know how to chase your boredom away," he said with an evil smirk. Nidia smiled wide and straddled his lap as she unbuttoned his shirt and slid it off. She lowered her head to his chest and began nipping and sucking his flesh. Just then the door burst open and Nidia was thrown off of Scott.
"Jeffrey," Scott said smiling as if he had expected him. "Nice to see you." Jeff pulled him to his feet by his braids.
"Cut the shit Scott," Jeff growled as his vampire side took over. Piercing green eyes bore holes into Scott.
"Jeff," Scott said pulling free from Jeff's grasp. "You seem upset. Tell an old friend what's bothering you this fine evening."
Jeff shoved him up against the wall in a choke hold. "You know damn well what's bothering me. First Matt and Mystic magically appear in an elevator and now Adam's been turned into a vampire. I thought I told you to keep your goons away from here."
"Jeffrey....or should I say Nero," Scott said calmly with an air of indifference. "You should know by now that idle threats don't scare me." He chuckled when Jeff growled and slammed him into the wall before releasing him. "As for Matt and Mystic....I have no control over what they do. After all they do have minds of their own."
"And what about Adam," Jeff said. "He was a good man."
"And now he's an even better man," Scott smirked. "That little witch was draining the life force right out of him with all their petty squabbles. So....Nidia, my little pet, finished the job off. You know how I hate to see people suffering."
"Yeah," Jeff muttered. "You're a fucking humanitarian."
"My, my," Scott said with a smirk. "All these years with a soul has softened you Nero....or is it that tasty little brunette you've been spending time with. I bet she tastes sweet as candy."
In the blink of an eye Scott was pinned up against the wall again. "You stay away from her," Jeff growled, his green eyes flashing with anger and disgust. "You touch her and I will kill you myself. That's not an idle threat. That's a promise." He slammed Scott against the wall a few more times before leaving.
"Someone's a little touchy," Scott said rubbing the back of his head.
Jeff took the stairs up to his floor, needing the time alone to think. There was just something about Shelly that made him feel so alive again. His heart seemed to skip a beat when he kissed her lips...well...it would if could beat. He was so full of emotions for this woman that he had just met. It didn't make much sense to him, but he liked the feelings he had. They made him feel more...human. He reached his floor and decided to head up to the roof. Taking a seat on the ledge he found his thoughts wandering back to Shelly.
"Penny for your thoughts," a familiar female voice called from behind him. He turned to see Joxy smirking at him.
"Hey," he said standing and pulling her into a hug. "I've missed you."
"I've missed you too, but you know me and full moons," Joxy said. "I know someone else who's missed you." She motioned for someone to come out of hiding. A woman hobbled out from behind the door back into the hotel.
"Jazz," Jeff said smiling wide. "Where have you been?"
"Nursing my leg back to health," she replied and hugged Jeff. "Got it caught it a bear trap when I was hunting down in the woods of Mississippi."
"It's not safe for us to be hunting alone," Joxy gently scolded.
"I know," Jazz replied. "It's also not safe for us to be in a full arena when there's a full moon, but no one reminds you of that little fact." Joxy chuckled and shook her head.
"So what brings you up here tonight," Joxy asked Jeff.
"I've met someone," Jeff replied taking a seat on the ledge.
"Really," Joxy said as she and Jazz took seats on either side of him. "Tell me all about her."
"She's not like me," Jeff said looking down at his hands.
"She's human," Jazz asked. Jeff shook his head yes.
"She knows what I am and...she doesn't seem to care," he said. "She's wonderful. She's new to the fed."
"You mean Shelly," Joxy asked. Jeff nodded yes. "I was sparring with her earlier today in the gym. She's a little spitfire."
"It's great that she doesn't care about what you are," Jazz said smiling. Jeff just sighed heavily and watched the traffic down below. "What's wrong?"
"It just feels too good to be true," Jeff replied.
"I see," Joxy said. "You've been suffering for so long and now that things are starting to look up you're afraid that she'll be taken from you the way that Serena was." He nodded.
"Scott and Matt have been lurking around," Jeff said. "They're up to something and I'm afraid it has something to do with Shelly."
"There's something else on your mind," Jazz said.
"I can't give her what she deserves," Jeff said. "I can't even go out in day light. How can we have a relationship?"
"You think it's easy for Glenn and I," Joxy asked. "Hell he's a demon and I'm a werewolf. You find ways to make things work when you love someone." She stood and patted Jeff on the shoulder. "You'll figure things out." She and Jazz said their goodbyes and left him with his thoughts.
Kim sat by the window watching the rain pounding against the glass. The sound of Shelly's even breathing was the only sound in the room. Wiping the tears from her eyes she glanced at her sleeping room mate and stood with a sigh. Grabbing her room key and jacket she quietly slipped out of the room.
She made her way to the stairwell and headed downstairs. She made her way to the alley behind the hotel and stood just staring at the rain for a while before pulling her hood up and venturing out.
"You'll catch your death of cold," she heard in her ear. Turning around she saw Adam smiling at her.
"Adam," she said unable to believe that he was there. "Adam. Is it really you?"
"Who else would it be," he asked with a chuckle and held his arms out for her. She threw herself into him and held on for dear life. "Poor baby," he cooed. "You're shivering." She buried her head into his chest and inhaled his masculine scent. "Let me warm you up." He ran his hands up and down her arms and brushed her hair out of her face. He nuzzled her neck. She smiled at the sensation he was giving her until she felt two needle pricks in her neck for a moment and then she was thrown to the ground.
Brushing the wet hair out of her face she saw Jeff fighting with Adam. "No," she screamed scrambling to her feet when she saw Jeff wielding a wooden stake above his head. She threw all her weight against him, knocking him to the ground. Adam scurried off to lick his wounds from the battle.
"What are you doing," Jeff growled. "He was going to kill you."
"Adam wouldn't do that," Kim replied trying to see which way Adam had gone.
Jeff grabbed her by the shoulders and said, "He's not Adam anymore. He's a monster now. Look at your neck. He was trying to kill you." Kim felt her neck and looked at her fingertips in time to see crimson blood being washed away by the rain. "I know you love him, but you have to be more careful around him." Kim looked up at him, her bottom lip quivering. "Come on. I'll walk you back to your room. Kim nodded mutely and followed Jeff back into the hotel.
They ran into Shelly in the hall when they got to their floor. "Where were you guys," Shelly asked sleepily. "You're both drenched."
"Adam's really gone," Kim said dully. "He...tried to hurt me. Adam wouldn't do that to me."
"She's still in shock," Jeff said. "Want me to stay with you girls?"
"That'd be nice," Shelly said smiling. She and Jeff helped Kim into bed and then went to bed themselves. Jeff held Shelly as she lay with her head on his chest. He listened to the soft inhaling and exhaling as he dozed off too.
Waking up about an hour later he looked down at the mass of brown curls on his chest and smiled. "I wish I could be here when you woke up," he whispered. "I'll miss you until I see you again." With that he kissed her temple and slid out of bed.
When Shelly awoke in the morning Jeff was gone. "Typical man," she muttered to herself and rolled over. "You all right Kim?" Kim was staring out the window again. "Did you get any sleep at all," she asked when Kim didn't reply to the previous question.
Kim looked at her blankly and then sighed. "I got some, but all I saw was Adam's face when I closed my eyes."
"It'll get easier," Shelly said. "I'll help you through it and so will Amy and Jeff." Kim nodded and went back to staring out the window. "We better get ready. We have to be at the gym in a little while."
At the gym Shelly and Kim tossed their bags into lockers and went to see what the trainers had in store for them. Amy saw them and jogged over to them. "I heard about Adam," she said apologetically. "If there's anything you need I'm here for you." Kim half smiled at the redhead.
"Aims," a buxom blonde called and jogged over to them. "What's up?"
"Trish," Amy said smiling at the shorter woman. "This is Shelly. The one I was telling you about." Trish nodded knowingly and smiled at Shelly.
"Pleasure to finally meet you," Trish said. "You're quite popular with our coven."
"Really," Shelly said not understanding.
"Uh...Trish, why don't we go warm up. You know Ted'll be pissed if we're not ready," Amy said and ushered the smaller woman away.
"What was that all about," Shelly asked Kim, who just shrugged.
"Shell," she said softly. "Could you...um...teach me to defend myself?"
"What do you mean," Shelly asked before she took a swig of her water. "You know how to wrestle."
"I meant against Adam," Kim replied not meeting her gaze.
"Oh," Shelly replied. "Sure." She gave her friend's shoulder and reassuring squeeze. "I'll show you some moves. No problem. What I can't teach I'm sure Jeff can. Looks like Ted's starting. Let's go."
After the workout Trish, Amy, Shelly, and Kim were sitting in the locker room together. All had taken showers and gotten dressed. "So....um...Trish, something you said earlier just really didn't make sense to me."
Trish smiled and nodded. "I knew that you didn't know when Amy rushed me away. I'm a witch," she said still smiling. Shelly nodded, not phased by the news because her room mate was also one. "There are more witches in the WWE than just myself, Kim and Amy. There's quite a few of us, and not all of them are female." She chuckled a bit. "The men prefer to be called warlocks though. It's not so masculine to be called a witch."
"You said that I was popular with you coven," Shelly said. "That's what's confusing me. I just got here not more than a week ago. How can I be popular with anyone yet."
"She doesn't know," Trish asked Amy with wide eyes.
"I haven't gotten the chance to tell her," Amy replied.
"Of course not," Trish scolded. "You like playing Nancy Drew much better than being a witch." She sighed deeply. "We can't talk here. Let's go back to my hotel room where I know we'll have privacy." They all agreed and left the gym.
"This is your room," Shelly asked astonished at the sight before her. The bed seemed to be made of twisted tree branches with a feather soft mattress in the middle. The light in the room came from the crystal blue sunlit sky instead of the cieling lamp. There were colorful butterflies and birds fluttering around the room and the sweet scent of exotic flowers perfumed the air.
"It's a simple spell," Trish said beaming proudly at her creation. "The hotel decor tends to bore me so much. I redecorate so that it's to my liking."
"So, what was this secret that you couldn't tell me at the gym," Shelly asked perching on a branch.
"Well, I'm sure that Amy's explained the murders and the symbols around the bodies," Trish said. Shelly nodded. "She didn't tell you the whole story." Shelly furrowed her brows and looked at Amy, who blushed and looked away. "You see, there is some big evil coming. That much you know. What you don't know is that you are destined to be the one to fight it."
"ME!" Shelly nearly fell off the branch. "Why me?! Why not you or Amy or Jeff or anyone but me!"
"Calm down," Trish chuckled. "You don't honestly think that we'd let you face this thing alone do you?"
"We're working on some protection spells," Amy piped in. "We're pooling our energies to help."
"How many are in this pool," Shelly asked.
"There's myself, Amy, Courtney, Shannon, Shane, Storm, Steph and Kidman. That's eight."
"Nine," Kim piped in. "I might not be as strong or as experienced as you all, but count me in."
Trish smiled and walked over to the younger witch. She slid her arm around her shoulders and gave Kim a sqeeze. "You've been so hurt little one," she said softly. "You have to be sure that this is what you truly want to do." Kim gazed into Trish's eyes and nodded. "Very well. I see that we have the soul of a fighter in this one." She smiled at Amy and Shelly. "Come. I'll show you what we've come up with so far."
"The little blonde witch and her red headed girlfriend have been talking to her master," Chris Jericho said in hushed tones on his cell phone.
"Chris," Eric said. "Why are you whispering? Could it be because you're using you cell phone when I distinctly remember telling you not to!"
"Sorry," Jericho said and made a face.
"Eric," Tammi said taking the phone from Chris. "Don't you dare yell at Chris for giving you valuable information."
"Tammi," Eric's voice took on a sickeningly syrupy sweet tone. "I didn't mean to yell. I just don't want our calls to be traced and all that jazz. You know....must protect ourselves."
"Whatever," Tammi mumbled and rolled her eyes. "The witches are planning something Eric. I can feel it in my bones."
"Don't you worry your pretty little head about that," Eric replied. "Now could I talk to Chris again?" He heard Tammi grumble and the sound of her talking to Chris as she passed the phone over. "Demons," Eric muttered to himself as he waited for Chris to come back on.
Shelly sat by the hotel pool looking up at the night sky. She didn't hear the footsteps behind her until they were right next to her. Looking up she saw a man with blonde braids and woman with long wavy reddish blonde hair. "Well, look what the cat dragged in," Scott said smiling wickedly at Shelly.
"Scotty," Nidia said pouting. "You promised that she could be mine. Remember?"
"Of course I remember pet," Scott said. "Go right ahead. Make it a slow death. I'd like to enjoy the show." Nidia nodded and turned her attention to Shelly, who had gotten to her feet prepared to fight.
"It's just you and me now girly," Nidia said with a laugh as she lunged for her. Shelly dodged and Nidia fell face first to the cold ground.
Looking around for something to use as a weapon Shelly spotted a tree branch nearby. She tumbled towards it, but by the time she got there Scott had kicked it away. "Now that's not playing fair," he said with an evil laugh.
"Neither is ambushing me," Shelly said and kicked his legs out from under him. He tumbled right into the pool. Nidia rushed to the edge of the pool to help her beloved climb out.
Thinking quickly Shelly grabbed the branch that Scott had kicked away and plunged it through Nidia's back. Nidia dropped Scott back into the pool and turned to look at her attacker a moment before she exploded in a cloud of dust.
"Nidia," Scott screamed as he clung to the edge of the pool. Shelly grabbed his hands and pulled him out of the pool, knowing that he'd probably try to kill her once he was out. He sprang to his feet and glared at her. "You'll pay for killing Nidia," he growled and lunged at her. She felt someone or something tackle her and she tumbled a few yards away. Looking over her shoulder she saw Jeff battling Scott.
"I told you to stay away from her," he growled as his green eyes glowed evilly.
"Since when do I listen to you," Scott snarled. "What's your fascination with this one Nero? Is she really that good in bed?" Jeff growled and lunged at Scott, who dodged out of the way and chuckled. "Oh yes, I'd forgotten you can't sleep with her can you? You haven't told her yet have you?"
Shelly looked at Jeff confused by Scott's words. Before either man could say another word Scott ran off laughing evilly. Jeff helped Shelly up and held her a moment. "What was he talking about," she asked.
"Nothing," Jeff replied. "What are you doing out here by yourself?"
"Thinking," Shelly replied as she allowed Jeff to lead her back into the hotel. They got to her floor and she just stared at the door a moment before sighing and looking up into his eyes. "Can we go to your room," she asked softly. "I just need to be alone with you." Jeff smiled slightly and nodded as they took the stairs up to the next floor.
Shelly sat down on the bed and patted the mattress next to her for Jeff to sit. He did so and she rested her head on his shoulder. "You seem stressed," he said softly as he kissed her temple.
"I have a lot on my mind," she replied.
"Amy and Trish told you about the prophecy huh," he asked. She looked up into his eyes wondering how he knew.
"It's got to be wrong," she said looking down at her hands and frowning. "I can't be the one to fight this evil that's coming. What if I screw up and the whole world is shot to shit?"
Jeff chuckled and tilted her head up to meet his gaze. "I know that you'll be wonderful."
He lowered his head to hers and captured her lips in a heated kiss. Her fingers tangled in his purple and blue hair as she allowed him to lay her back on the bed. His hands traveled down the length of her body and eased her shirt up. She stopped his hands momentarily as Scott's words ran through her mind. Jeff gently nipping and lapping at her neck quickly chased the memory away as she surrendered to him.
"Sounds like fang boy's getting lucky," Tammi snickered as she listened outside Jeff's door.
"Tammi," Chris scolded with an evil smirk on his lips. "You're hogging the door. I wanna hear too." He pouted at her and she smiled, moving to allow him to hear the activities inside the room too. "Ooh! She sounds like a little hellcat in bed," Chris snickered as his arms snaked around Tammi's waist. She leaned back against him and purred happily as they continued to eavesdrop.
"What do you say we go make a little noise ourselves," Chris finally whispered in her ear. She turned around in his arms and smiled wickedly.
"I thought you'd never ask," she giggled as he scooped her up and carried her off to their own room.
Later that night Jeff lay watching Shelly sleep. He ran a fingertip up her bare back and smiled as she softly moaned in her sleep. Life finally seemed to make sense to him. He had found someone who could love him for him and not care about what he was. He only hoped that he could live up to what she wanted him to be.
He lay back on his pillows and sighed deeply closing his eyes to get some rest. A sudden pain wracked his body causing him to fall out of bed. He crawled into the bathroom as the pain became more and more intense. He curled up in a ball on the cold tile floor praying for the pain to go away. The intensity of the pain soon made him lose consciousness.
Shelly rolled over in bed a few hours later and frowned finding it empty. The moonlight filled the room. "Jeff," she called as she pulled on her clothes. She saw the bathroom door slightly ajar and ventured in. Seeing Jeff curled up on the floor she quickly ran to his side. "Jeff," she yelled and shook him. His eyes fluttered open and he focused his gaze on her. He roughly pulled away from her and got up, dressing in what he found on the floor. "What's wrong? What happened?" He didn't reply. He simply went to the sink and splashed some water on his face. "Jeff? What's going on?"
"Don't you ever shut up," he growled.
"I don't think that's a nice way to treat someone you just made love to," she replied forcing the tears back.
Jeff snickered. "You mean fucked," he replied. "That's all you were an easy fuck and not a very good one at that."
"I don't understand why you're acting like this," she said, the tears now flowing down her cheeks. "Something about you has changed."
"Yes," he replied and finally faced her. "I've been reborn, so to speak."
"Jeff?"
"Stop calling me that," he growled. "My name is Nero!" His face transformed and his fangs gleamed in the moonlight.
"No," Shelly screamed and ran for her life. She fumbled with the door and finally got it open just seconds before Jeff pounced. He crashed headfirst into the closing door and slumped to the ground stunned. She ran down the steps to her floor as the tears flowed freely.
Kim, Amy and Trish were all startled when Shelly burst into the room and slammed the door behind her. Leaning against the door she slid to the floor and pulled her knees to her chest sobbing.
"Shelly," Kim asked sitting down next to her. "What's wrong?"
"He changed," she sobbed. "He's not Jeff anymore." Amy and Trish exchanged worried glances.
"What do you mean," Amy asked also sitting down next to Shelly.
"We made love," Shelly said sniffling and accepting the tissue box Trish handed her before she too sat down on the floor with the others. "It was wonderful. He was so gentle and loving. Then...when I woke up...he'd changed. He told me his name wasn't Jeff, it was Nero."
"I've feared this since Amy told me about how close you and Jeff have become," Trish said frowning. "You know about the curse?" Shelly nodded as she wiped her eyes. "A few hundred years ago he tried to have the curse lifted by a shaman. The best the shaman could do was add a condition to the curse. It states that if he ever achieved true happiness, even for just a moment, he'd lose his soul and become what he once was....a monster who lives off of pain and torment."
"What do I do now," Shelly asked softly.
"There's only one thing you can do," Amy replied sadly. "You have to kill him."
"Where is that little bitch," Jeff growled and punched a wall. "I know she's around here somewhere. I can smell her."
"She's with her witch friends." Jeff spun around and found himself face to face with Adam, Jason and Dawn. "Nice to see you back to your old self Nero," Adam said smiling.
"Scott will be very pleased," Jason said as he nuzzled Dawn's neck. The female vampire purred and smiled wickedly at Jeff.
"So this is the famous Nero," Dawn said. "He's everything you've told me and more."
"Where's Scott," Jeff asked them.
"Where else," Adam replied. "He's in the boiler room." Jeff smirked and went to find Scott.
Shelly looked at Amy, Kim and Trish as they chattered on and on about what the right way to kill Jeff would be. "We really should have the others help us decide," Amy said to Trish.
"Others," Shelly said, her outburst startling all of them. "First you tell me that I have to kill the man that I love and now you want others to come in and tell me just how to do it?!"
"Shell," Kim said placing a hand on her shoulder. "You told me that Adam wasn't Adam anymore. Jeff isn't the man you fell in love with. He's a monster now. Whatever the decision is you won't be alone when it comes to it. I promise you that." Shelly's bottom lip began to quiver and she lowered her head as the tears began to fall. Kim pulled her into a hug.
"I'll call the others," Trish said. Amy nodded and tried to help calm Shelly down.
When Jeff found Scott he was kicking and punching walls in the boiler room. "You'll break a bone doing that," Jeff said. Scott spun and faced him, ready to attack. His face broke into a grin when he realized just who was standing before him.
"Nero," he said with a wide grin. "So nice to see you back again."
"You want her," Jeff asked. Scott nodded. "Leave it to me. You'll have her, but only if you promise to let me finish her off."
"That my friend is a deal," Scott said smiling from ear to ear.
The meeting in Shelly and Kim's room was too much deal with. Excusing herself Shelly snuck out of the room and went for a walk. She made her way up to the roof of the hotel and sat on the ledge watching the traffic down below. "Please don't jump because of me." Looking over her shoulder she saw Jeff smirking at her.
"Come to toture me some more," she asked getting to her feet and trying to walk past him. With lightning speed he grabbed her by the arm and held. "What are you doing?" She tried to get free, but he was too strong for her. It was then that she realized that Scott was heading straight for her. Unable to escape she closed her eyes and waited for the inevitable pain to come.
"Not just yet Scott," Jeff purred. Scott growled, but Jeff just chuckled as he continued to hold Shelly.
"You promised me Nero," Scott grumbled.
"I changed my mind," Jeff chuckled. "You can finish her instead." Hearing these words Scott's scowl turned to a wide grin. "As for you, I want to remember you exactly the way you were," Jeff purred in Shelly's ear, causing her to shiver. The man still made her weak, even if he was an evil vampire.
"Jeff," she whimpered. "I thought you loved me." She reached out caressing his cheek and traced the ugly lines his vampire face had. "We shared something so beautiful last night. Don't do this. Don't let this side win. I know you're not like this." Tears flowed down her cheeks as she spoke to him.
"You're breaking my fucking heart," Scott scoffed. "Would you please quiet this bitch down already Nero."
Jeff growled and attacked Scott, sending him flying into a raised part of the hotel roof. Scott slumped to the floor in a heap. Turning his evil gaze back onto Shelly he smirked at her awestruck face. "He was getting on my nerves," he said. "Besides I think I'd like to have you all to myself." He grabbed her roughly baring his teeth and bringing his mouth to her neck. She squeezed her eyes shut tightly and waited for the pain to come again. She felt the pinch of his teeth puncturing her flesh, but he pulled away before he could drink.
Her eyes snapped open when she realized that someone or something had knocked Jeff away from her. Her eyes darted around until she saw Trish standing over Jeff with a rock in her hand. Trish glanced at Shelly and smiled. "You're not alone in this," she said and raised the rock above her head.
"Trish! No," Shelly yelled. "Please!" Trish lowered the rock and looked at Shelly confused. "This is my battle. I have to face this on my own."
"We can't let you do that." Both women turned and saw Kim and Amy at the roof door with Shannon, Courtney, Steph, Kidman, Shane and Storm. The voice belonged to Shannon.
"You have no choice in the matter," Shelly said glancing down at Jeff's unconscious body. "This is something I have to do by myself."
"If you're going to be so stubborn then you might as well use this," Steph said and handed her a wooden stake.
As Shelly took it in her hand it began to twinkle and glow from point to end. "It's a spell we all worked on," Courtney said. "If it works it should unite Jeff with his soul."
"We'll soon find out if it works," Shelly said when she saw out of the corner of her eye that Jeff was regaining consciousness. "Please, all of you, leave. I appreciate all that you're doing to help me, but I can't let him hurt anyone else." They all nodded and pulled the roof door closed. As they heard Shelly and Jeff exchanging blows they all began to cast a spell in hopes that it would further help Shelly and also protect her.
A pin prick of light formed behind Jeff and slowly began to grow as he and Shelly continued to battle. She had just kicked him in the chest knocking him back a few paces when his face changed back to his human form. "Shelly," he said and looked at her with confused green eyes.
Seeing his old self, tears sprang to Shelly's eyes. "Jeff," she whimpered.
"Help me," he said extending a hand toward her. "I don't want to be him anymore." The ball of light behind him was now big enough to almost envelope his whole body.
Tears flowed down her cheeks as he spoke. "Shhh," she said as she pulled him to her. "Close your eyes." Jeff did as he was told as he held onto her. She slowly pulled the stake out of her pocket and took a deep breath. "I love you Jeff," she whispered in his ear as she plunged the stake into his chest. His eyes popped open in shock. "I'm sorry," she cried as fat tears rolled down her cheeks. "I had to do it. Please understand." He stumbled back clutching at the stake in his chest. His wide eyes locked with hers as his body was enveloped by the light.
"I love you," she heard him call as he was sucked into the light. Shelly crumbled to the ground as the sobs wracked her body.
"Steph, Courtney, Kim and Amy get her back to my room," Trish called as they all emerged onto the roof once again. The women nodded and helped Shelly to her feet.
"Boys you can carry Scott to my room once I bind him with a spell," Trish said. Shannon, Shane and Kidman all nodded as Trish began a spell rendering Scott helpless.
"He was Jeff again," Shelly babbled incoherently as Steph handed her a cup of tea.
"That was part of the spell," Courtney explained. "We needed for you to get close enough to him to stake him and we knew the only way you could was if he was Jeff and not Nero." Shelly nodded her understanding as she sipped the tea.
"The most important thing is that you stopped Nero before he could hurt anyone else again," Steph said. Shelly nodded mutely and stared up at the starlit sky that was Trish's room cieling.
"I think I need to be alone for a while," Shelly mumbled and climbed up a large winding vine that hung off a tree near Trish's bed. She perched in the crook of two tree branches and leaned against the trunk while she stared at the stars.
"She's so strong," Kim said staring up at her. "I don't think I could kill Adam if it came down to it."
"Let's hope it doesn't," Trish said as she directed the guys to tie Scott up to a tree across from the one Shelly was in. Looking up Trish saw that Shelly was sound asleep. "She's going to have a hell of a neckache when she wakes up," she said with a sad smirk. "Tea?" Steph nodded with a small smile. It was known amongst certain people in the WWE that Steph had a knack for making tea to help you sleep. "Good. She needs the sleep."
"What will we do with him," Courtney asked motioning toward Scott, who was now fighting against his restraints.
"The more you fight the tighter they'll get," Trish said.
"Evil witch," Scott said and spat at her. "Keep me here all you want, but you'll never get a thing out of me."
"Sleep," Trish said with a wave of her hands and Scott immediately fell limp as slumber overcame him.
"He'll be out for the rest of the night and most of the day," She said to the others. "Why don't you all go get some sleep yourselves. I'll be fine with Shelly and him. Tomorrow at sunset we'll figure out what to do with him." The others nodded and filed out of the room, leaving Trish to change and go to bed herself.
Trish awoke the next day to the sound of unbearable screaming. Opening her eyes and sitting up in bed she saw Shelly battering the helpless vampire. She sighed deeply and climbed out of bed, pulling a robe over her nightgown. She gently placed a hand on Shelly's shoulder and the younger woman stopped her attack on Scott.
"It's all his fault," Shelly said and kicked Scott in the stomach.
"I understand that you're angry," Trish began, but was cut off.
"How can you understand," Shelly said glaring at the older woman. "How can you possibly understand what it feels like to have your heart ripped out while it's still beating. You've never had to kill the man you love."
"Don't be so quick to judge," Trish said and ushered Shelly over to the bed. "I've had my share of heartache and yes I have had to kill the man I love." Shelly's eyes grew wide in disbelief. "He was a powerful warlock, but the power went to his head and he became something purely evil."
"I guess you can understand how I feel," Shelly said blushing. "So what are we going to do with him?" Trish glanced at Scott who was wincing as he inhaled and exhaled.
"First I think I'll need to heal him. I think you broke a couple of ribs with that kick." Trish smiled warmly and placed her hand over Shelly's. "I know it's not going to be easy for you to get through this loss, but for the sake of the world you're going to have to try."
"Thanks," Shelly said sarcastically. "No pressure right." Trish squeezed Shelly's hand and set about healing Scott's ribs.
"Adam have you seen Scott anywhere," Jason asked.
"Nero's gone missing too," Dawn said from her perch on Jason's lap.
"Who needs those losers anyway," Matt said as Mystic ran her fingers through his hair. "They only held us back."
"Held us back from what," Adam asked glaring enviously at his friends and their mates.
"From how powerful we could be. Do you know how powerful we could be?" The others looked at each other and shook their heads no.
"We could be so powerful that we can feast for life when Eric unleashes his evil plan in just days."
"I knew it," Shelly exclaimed. "I knew Eric Bischoff was behind something."
"Calm down," Trish said annoyed. They had been trying to get information out of Scott for hours. "What else do you know?"
"Nothing," Scott said. Shelly raised her fist at him. "I swear! All I know is Eric is planning a big hoopla with something evil as the guest of honor." Shelly lowered her fist and sighed loudly.
"I have to get out of here," she said suddenly.
"Where are you going," Trish asked worried about her friend.
"I need some air," was all Shelly replied as she left the room.
"He's a heavy thing," Tammi grumbled.
"Shut up and keep that leg up," Trouble barked.
"Why exactly does Eric want this sack of sorry shit," Hunter groaned.
"Search me," Chris replied. "Let's just get a move on. The sooner we dump him with Eric the sooner we can relax."
"Ah good," Eric said smiling when he saw the four demons dragging in the limp body. "Chain him to the wall over there. Now one of you fetch me that pesty new girl."
"I'll go," Trouble said smirking. "I have a score to settle with her." She fingered the gash in her cheek that was a souvenir of the last time they had clashed.
Shelly had just turned the corner heading to her room when she saw Trouble walking toward her, her red eyes glowing and a cheshire cat like grin on her face. "What do you want," Shelly asked, giving up hopes of a nice hot shower and clean clothes.
"Eric would like to see you," Trouble said still smiling.
"Tell Eric to bite me," Shelly said pulling out her card key and slipping it into the lock.
"Oh I'm sure he will," Trouble replied. "But he wants to see you NOW." She grabbed Shelly's arm and began to drag her away.
Shelly jerked away and glared at the demon before her. "I'm not going anywhere with you," she said crossing her arms across her chest.
"Fine," Trouble said sighing. "We'll do it the hard way." She took a deep breath and began to morph into her demon form. Her hair became a mixture of long flowing raven and crimson locks as her arms sprouted reddish brown scales. Two curvy horns protruded from her head and her tongue became snakelike and biforkated. Talons erupted from her nail beds as an animalistic growl emanated from her throat. "Let's go," she growled.
Shelly watched all of this not truly believing her eyes. She took a deep breath and prepared to battle with this creature. She lunged at Trouble, but was caught in midair and brought down hard on the carpeted floor. She struggled to regain her breath as the slam had knocked the wind out of her. Before she was able to get to her feet she felt a pin prick on her neck. Her hand flew to the spot where she found a hard spine embedded in her flesh. She winced as she yanked it out and looked at momentarily before her eyes went glassy and she fell to the floor unconscious. "We could have done it the easy way," Trouble grumbled as she easily hoisted Shelly's dead weight over her shoulder. "But Nnnoooo. You had to play hero. I hope Eric punishes you good for this." She carried Shelly down the hall and down a couple of stair wells to Eric's room.
Shelly's eyes fluttered open and harsh light flooded them. Closing them she attempted to rub her throbbing temples and found her arms chained to the wall.
"Oh look she's awake," Tammi said with a smirk when Shelly tried to pull free from the chains.
"Good," Eric said as he came into her line of sight with a huge smile on his face. "Good morning sleeping beauty or should I say good evening." He shrugged and chuckled. "Doesn't matter. Night and day will cease to exist in just a couple of hours." He turned to the others and smiled wickedly. "Have you met your cell mate yet." He motioned toward to wall next to Shelly.
Following his gaze her eyes went wide. "No," she muttered. "It can't be." There before her curled up in a ball on the floor lay a man with surprisingly familiar purple and blue hair. His clothes hung in jagged pieces from his muscular body and every muscle was tense with fear and anger. "Jeff," she murmured and tried to reach out to touch, but him the harsh chains wouldn't allow her to reach very far. Tears sprang to her eyes and dribbled down her cheeks.
Hearing his name Jeff's head snapped up. He looked all around the room until he saw the owner of the soft voice. "Shelly," he croaked in a hoarse whisper. "Is it really you?" She nodded as the tears flowed down her cheeks.
"Isn't this just so touching," Eric said. Shelly glared up at him. "I suppose you're wondering how Jeff could be here talking to you when you killed him and sent him to a hell dimension." Shelly winced at the last words. "Ah yes, a hell dimension. He was suffering so much. Why if it wasn't for the fact that Tammi is an excellent healer he'd be dead....again." They all burst into laughter.
"You're a pig," Shelly said and spat in his face.
Wiping the saliva from his face, Eric grabbed her by the hair and pressed his face to hers, speaking through gritted teeth. "I am a very powerful demon and if you want to live long enough to see the night's festivities I'd keep that in mind." He tossed her aside and went to wash his face.
Shelly lay on the ground softly sobbing. Her fears about being the one to save the world seemingly coming true. She glanced at Jeff, who was just staring at her, his expression hard to read. Blinking away the tears she sat up and said, "I had to do it Jeff. I didn't know that you'd be sent to a hell dimension. I loved you so much, I still do, but..."
"Don't," he replied. "I understand. I became that monster again. It wasn't so bad in the hell dimension." He smirked at her. "One thing kept me going there....thinking of you." Shelly closed her eyes as fresh tears came to them.
"I can't locate her at all Trish," Kim said with a sigh.
"I was afraid of that," Trish replied. "We're going to need help, more help than witchcraft can give us. I'm going to talk to Stephanie. Keep an eye on that one." Kim nodded and watched as Trish left the room.
Once she was sure that Trish was gone Kim glared down at Scott. "What'cha gonna do witchy," he taunted. Kim raised her hand and with a flick of her wrist Scott felt as if his insides were on fire. "What are you doing to me," he screamed.
"You took away Adam's soul," she said never taking her eyes off of him. "Do you know what heartache feels like Scott? Do you? Let me show you." With another flick of her wrist Scott's chest felt like something had exploded inside of it. His whole body went limp from the intensity of the pain. "I'll show you what heartache feels like," Kim said as her eyes grew dark and the sky cieling flashed with lightning and boomed with thunder. "I'll show you how it feels to have your heart torn apart."
Trish knocked on Stephanie McMahon's door and sighed. She had hoped she would never need the young vengence demon's help, but she was the only one who could sense where people were even when she and her coven could not. The door opened and small demon with red eyes stood before Trish. "What do you want witch," he hissed.
"Now Rey," Stephanie scolded coming to the door behind him. "We don't treat Trish Stratus that way." She smiled at Trish and motioned for her to come in. "I had a feeling I'd see you today."
As Trish entered the room she was greeted by hisses. Spinning around to face the couch she saw Kevin Nash restraining a young demon with blonde hair. "Emily stop," he demanded. "She's not here for us."
"I'm not here to fight any of you," Trish said looking at them
"Something wrong," Joxy asked as she and Glenn came out of a bedroom off to the side.
"Everyone please let Trish speak," Stephanie said holding up her hands.
"Something horrible is going to happen if we all don't work together," Trish began. She told them of the prophecy, which she was surprised to know that they all knew about it already.
"But that's why I told my father to sign Shelly," Stephanie said. "I knew that she was the one to stop all of this."
"That's the problem," Trish said rubbing her temples. "She's missing and none of us can find her at all. Stephanie I know that you can sense people even if I can't. Please. I need your help."
"Bischoff's got her," Nash said. Trish looked at him wide eyed. "Stephanie's not the only demon with a tracking device." He smirked at them all.
"Will you help me," Trish asked.
"I don't trust the witch," Rey said.
"Neither do I," Emily agreed.
"Children," Glenn said shaking his head. "If she wanted to harm us she would have done so a long time ago. She's one of the most powerful witches in the WWE." He looked down at his mate and smiled. "Get Jazz. We're going to need both of you to help us track Eric and his cronies." Joxy nodded and went to the phone. "Rey, I need you to keep a lookout for anything strange going on." Rey nodded and immediately turned invisible. They all saw the door open and then close. "Kevin, Emily you two will be our back up." They both nodded. "Now then, where is the rest of your coven?"
"Doing research on the prophecy," Trish replied. "I just have a feeling there's more to it than what we already know."
Glenn nodded and sighed. "I was afraid of that too. You go get a couple of your friends. We're going to need all the help we can, but make sure you leave a couple to finish the research." Trish nodded and went to the phone.
"Up you go," Hunter said yanking Shelly up by her hair. He walked her over to a huge metal cage and tossed her in. "Now it's your turn rainbow." He jerked Jeff up roughly and escorted him to the cage also. He tossed him in with such force that he landed on top of Shelly. "You guys have prime seats for the blessed event," he smirked and locked the door with a huge clang.
Shelly and Jeff looked at each other in confusion. "What does he mean," Shelly whispered as they watched the room full of demons preparing the room for something.
"I don't know," Jeff said wrapping his arms around her. "I don't like it whatever it is."
"That was Trish," Amy said. "She wants a couple of us to come with her to find Shelly."
"She's missing again," Steph asked.
"Yes," Amy replied. "That's the curse of being a chosen one I guess. You're drawn to trouble."
"Can I cast a spell to remove her magnet," Steph replied. Courtney and Shannon chuckled.
"This is serious," Amy frowned. "Trish is with Stephanie and some other demons. She said that there's definitely more to the prophecy. I'll stay to finish up the research, but I need at least two others to help cover all the material."
"I'll stay," Courtney and Storm both said at the same time.
"Good," Amy said. "Shannon, Shane, Steph, Kidman Trish is going to meet you all here. Someone should check on Kim. See if maybe she wants to go with you guys. You can just bring Scott in here with us."
"I'll go," Shane said and kissed Storm's cheek before he left the room.
"How does that feel," Kim yelled as Scott writhed in pain on the ground. "How about this?" Scott thrashed around on the ground as if bolts of electricity were streaming through him.
"Kim no," Shane yelled in horror when he saw the scene before him. "We don't use our powers for that." With just a glare Kim threw Shane up against the wall outside the room. He landed on the ground with a sickening thud.
"What was that," Courtney asked hearing the thud. Everyone filed out of the room and saw Shane lying on the ground. The door to Trish's room was still open and they could see and hear the thunder and lightning.
"Shane," Storm screamed and ran to his side. "He's still breathing. I need some help healing him." Amy went to help her.
"Go see what's going on with Kim and Scott," Amy barked to the others.
"Don't go any further," Trish and the others heard Rey call out to them. His voice came from down the hall. "Stacy and Andrew are patrolling and they don't look human anymore."
"What do you mean," Trish whispered.
"Come and see for yourselves, but don't peer around the corner too far." They all followed the sound of his voice and one by one peeked around the corner. Stacy and Andrew's once flawlessly tanned skin now had a greenish tinge to it. Their eyes were glazed over and they walked stiffly.
"Zombies," Joxy and Jazz whispered.
"They're nasty fuckers," Jazz said.
"Incoming," Rey's voice called. Spinning around they saw Booker T, Brock Lesnar and Torrie Wilson all headed their way. All of them had the same sick greenish tinge to their skin.
"In here," Trish called and pulled them all into the utitility closet. "I need you all to hold hands and I'll try to transport us all to the others." Everyone clasped hands and the group disapperared and reappeared in the hall where Shannon and Kidman were wrestling Kim out of Trish's room. "What's going on?" It was then that Trish saw Courtney and Steph helping Scott out of the room. He was practically limp in their grip.
"Kim went insane," Steph replied. "She tried to kill Scott."
"Let me kill him," Kim yelled as she struggled to be free.
"No," Kidman yelled. "We don't use our powers like that. We're not killers." A blast of electricty shot through the air and Kim was gone, leaving everyone staring at where she had once been.
"Storm, Courtney, Shane go into the room and do the research," Trish said. "Kidman, Shannon, Amy and Steph come with us."
"What about Kim," Shannon asked.
"There's nothing we can do for her," Trish said sadly. "She's gone over to the other side because of the pain in her heart. She can't be helped unless she wants to find her way back. I only hope that she will find her way back."
"I think I found something," Courtney called to Storm and Shane, who had been working to heal Scott's many injuries. "It says that the evil that's coming must be born into this world in order to bring about the end of the world as we know it."
"Born into this world," Storm said. "You mean actually born? Like someone has to give birth to it?"
Shelly and Jeff sat terrified at the sight before them. A very pregnant Sara Callaway had been brought into the main part of the suite just moments ago. She had been chattering away with Trouble and Tammi when suddenly she had doubled over in pain.
"It's begun," Eric called joyfully. "The master is on his way!"
"What's going on," Shelly asked Jeff as they saw Mark helping Sara disrobe and lay down on the makeshift bed the demons had made for her.
"This is not good," Jeff whispered to her. "Mark and Sara are two of the most powerful demons in the world. I'm afraid of what she's about to give birth to."
"Me too," Shelly said unable to pull her eyes away from Sara.
Courtney, Storm and Shane rushed out of the room to find Trish and the others to tell them the news. They stopped dead in their tracks when they saw Paul Wight walking towards them. His eyes glazed over and drool dripping from his lips which bared huge teeth. "Another zombie," Courtney said quickly thinking of some way to escape the mammoth foe.
"That's not a zombie," Shane said. "That's a super zombie. There's no way we'll get past him!"
"We have to try," Storm said thinking fast. "This birth of evil thing could be happening as we speak."
"Damn it," Courtney said. "I wish I was Trish just this once so I could transport us all."
"Damn it Trish," Stephanie yelled as she tried to fend off Stacy. The blonde zombie was trying desperately to bite her. "Don't you have a spell that will kill these things?!"
"You can't kill zombies with a spell," Joxy said as she fended off Booker T with Glenn's help.
"You have to destroy the brain," Jazz said as she ducked a swipe from Torrie.
"Just a little more Sara," Mark cooed at his wife.
"You hear that kiddies," Eric said with a wide smile. "It's almost time."
"Time for what," Shelly yelled from the cage.
"Time for you and your boy toy to say goodbye to the world as we know it," Eric laughed. In that instance Sara let out a blood curdling scream and something flew out of her and onto Eric. Everyone in the room stood stunned as they watched what Sara had given birth to devour Eric Bischoff.
"Holy shit," Shelly yelled and clung to Jeff. "What the fuck is that thing?!"
"Trish," Courtney called as she, Storm and Shane ran to help the others with the zombies.
"You have to destroy the..." was all Jazz got out before Shane swung an ax and came down hard on Torrie's head. The blonde crumbled to the floor dead. "Brain," she said and looked at him a little shocked.
"Figured it out when we ran into Show," Shane said and gave her the ax to help the others with.
"Trish," Courtney said pulling Trish aside. "It has to be born. The evil has to be born."
"Sara," Trish said. "She's the only one it could be." Just then they heard Sara's blood curdling scream and then Eric's anguished cries.
"We're too late," Storm said.
"No," Stephanie replied. "It's all up to Shelly now. She's in there." They all looked at the door to Eric Bischoff's room and prayed that Stephanie was right.
"What are you doing," Jeff yelled as Shelly kicked at the bars of the cage.
"I have to stop that....thing. I have to kill it."
"You could get killed trying to do that," Jeff said.
"It's my destiny Jeff," Shelly said. "I have to try to stop it." Jeff sighed and nodded as he helped her kick out the bars.
Grabbing a sword off one of the wall hangings she carefully scanned the room for the demon that had just killed Eric. That was when she noticed that Mark was holding Sara's limp body in his arms. Sara looked as if the birth had practically torn her in half. "We didn't know what was going to happen," Mark said looking up at Shelly. "We had no idea this would happen."
Shelly was so shaken by what she had just witnessed that she didn't know the newborn demon was sneaking up on her until she heard Jeff call out for her to look out. Swinging around she managed to fight off the demon, but not before it took a chunk out of her shoulder.
"Are you all right," Mark asked.
"I think I'll live," she replied. He nodded and went after the demon. "Mark no!" She was too late. The demon had attacked and managed to disembowel him before he could get in any shots.
"You're bleeding," Jeff said coming to Shelly's side.
"I'll live," she replied. "Now how do we kill this thing?"
"I have no idea," Jeff replied and watched in horror as the demon proceeded to advanced on Rosie, Jamal and Ric. "Let's get out of here."
"I can't," Shelly said holding her shoulder, which was bleeding profusely. "I have to kill it....or die trying."
Trish and the others stood staring at the dead zombies that lay on the floor before them. "We have see what's happening in there," Steph said and with a flick of her wrist the door opened. They all stood stunned seeing the blood spattered walls and the carnage that lay before them. They recognized Sara's limp body and what was left of Mark. The only trace of Eric that was left was the sleeve of his leather jacket.
Hearing a groan they looked toward a corner of the room and saw Trouble, Hunter, Tammi and Chris trying to fend off the most horrible looking demon they had ever seen. It's skin was scaly, slimy and blackish green, it's horns were red, long and curvy and when it glanced over it's shoulders at them it's mouth bared bloody, yellowish fangs and long rivulets of sticky saliva. Before it could attack the group Trish, Amy, Steph, Courtney and Storm threw up a protective shield around them and the demon bounced off it and flew across room in a bright electric shock. The men went in search of weapons. That was when they saw Jeff and Shelly pounce on it.
"Is that," Amy said squinting her eyes. "Is that Jeff?"
"But it can't be," Storm said. "He's dead."
Meanwhile Shelly and Jeff were taking a beating from the demon. Jeff managed to pin it down and Shelly plunged her sword into it's chest. It let out a deafening shriek and threw Jeff off. It lunged straight for Shelly and pinned her to the floor with it's knees. Before anyone could react it ripped the sword out of it's chest and plunged it into Shelly's abdomen.
"NO," Jeff yelled and jumped on it's back. The demon thrashed about the room with Jeff on it's back while the girls went to help Shelly. Trying desperately to twist the demon's neck Jeff hung on for dear life until the demon backed into a wall and knocked him unconscious.
"Shelly," Amy said propping her head up on her lap. "You're going to be all right."
She coughed up blood and shook her head no. "I'm not Amy," she said hoarsely.
She pulled at the hilt of the sword, but Trish batted her hand away. "Don't," she said.
"You need to kill it with this," Shelly said coughing and again trying to pull the sword out of her.
"She's right," Kevin said. "If she's the one destined to kill this thing then the sword with her blood on it just might do the trick."
"I'll do it," cam Jeff's strained voice. They all looked at him. "This thing tried to kill her. I have to kill it." They all sighed and watched as he pulled the sword out of Shelly's abdomen leaving an oozing hole.
"Quickly apply pressure on it," Trish said to Courtney, who nodded and did as she was told.
Jeff knelt down by Shelly's face and kissed her softly on the forehead. "I love you," she whispered to him.
"I'm going to kill this thing for you," he said to her. "I promise you that." He stood up and looked at Trish. "I know she's dying. I can smell it. I don't want to be here when it happens. Just please know that this was her destiny." Trish nodded as her eyes clouded with tears. "Take good care of her until she goes." She nodded and quickly wiped her eyes before she turned back to her friends.
Jeff had been gone no more than five minutes when Shelly coughed and sputtered up more blood before going limp in Amy's arms. "It was her destiny," Trish said shakily, trying to remain in control of her emotions. "What we have to do now is help Jeff fight this thing off. If Shelly couldn't do it then he sure as hell can't do it alone." Amy covered Shelly's body with a sheet and left with the others in search of Jeff and the demon that had taken their friend's life.
Tammi, Chris, Trouble and Hunter all looked at the body of the young woman before them. "She actually died," Hunter said looking down at the body of the young woman.
"It's a shame we didn't get to do the honors," Chris said smirking.
Trouble slapped the both of them. "She died saving our asses," she said.
"What do you want us to do now," Tammi asked her. "Praise the corpse of our savior? Please. Trouble you know as well as I do that that's not gonna happen." Trouble glanced at Shelly's lifeless form and sighed. "Come on. We should at least try to help the goody goodies." They all looked at Tammi. "What? I don't want this world to end. I kinda like terrorizing humans."
"What are we supposed to do," Steph asked as Rey led the way to Jeff and the demon. "You saw what it did to Shelly. I don't know about you, but I'm not ready to die."
"We have to try to stop this thing," Trish said. "I'm well aware of what it did to Shelly, but if we let this thing win it will be as if she died in vain. I can't let that happen."
Scott creeped out of the shadows in Eric's room. He had seen everything, but had been frozen in place watching everything happen. He went to Shelly's side and looked down at her. "It shouldn't have happened that way," he mumbled. "It shouldn't have. You shouldn't have died." With a sigh he scooped her up and carried her out of the room.
"Well, well," Jason cooed when he saw Kim storm into their lair. "If it isn't a little witch." Dawn was at Jason's side and she smirked at Kim.
"Kim," Adam said smiling from ear to ear. "How lovely to see you again."
Without warning two wooden stakes flew through the air and punctured Jason and Dawn's hearts. They stared at her in shock a moment and then disappeared in a cloud of dust.
Adam stared at her nervously. "What are you gonna do Kim? Kill me? You and I both know you can't do that. You love me." He edged closer and closer to her until he was right in front of her. She pulled out a stake and tried to plunge it into his chest, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her close to his body. He inhaled her scent a moment as she struggled in his arms. "You know I always loved the way you smell," he whispered in her ear. She whimpered and closed her eyes as he began to kiss her neck. Her eyes closed even tighter when she felt his teeth puncture the delicate flesh of her neck.
Speaking softly at first and then getting louder she began a spell to return Adam to his former self. As he continued to drink her essence he bagan to feel the effects of the spell. It started in his head and slowly traveled down his body until both of them were glowing. He eventually pulled away from her and his fangs began to retract. She stared at him as the holes in her neck began to heal up.
"Kim," he said confused. He had no idea what they were doing down in the bowels of the hotel.
"Is it really you," she asked.
"What's going on," he asked. "I remember fighting with you and then I'm here. I don't understand."
"It doesn't matter," Kim said throwing herself into his arms. "We're never going to fight again. That's a promise." He held her shaking body close to him as she showered his face with kisses.
Scott carried Shelly through the halls of the hotel, casting sad glances down at her pale face now and then. Something was fighting deep down inside him. In one way he was happy she was dead, but in another way he was sad that she had died. "This shouldn't have happened to you." He had been looking at her so long that he didn't see who he had run into.
"What have you done to her," Kim demanded, seeing Shelly's limp body hit the floor.
"Nothing," Scott said cowering from the witch who had tortured him earlier. "A demon did this," he said and explained the events that had unfolded just an hour before.
"Let's get her to my room," Kim said. "I think I might know a spell to bring her back."
Scott laid Shelly in the center of the floor while Kim prepared what she needed. Scott and Adam stood back and watched as she began the spell.
"Trish," Jeff said when he saw her and the others running to him. "Get down. I have the demon cornered in here." He pointed to the janitor's closet, which sounded like something was thrashing wildly in it. "I managed to knick him with the sword, but that's about it. He's a fast one."
"We're here to help," Trish said.
"Good," Jeff said. "I think I'm going to need it."
Kim collapsed to the ground once the spell was done. Outside the sky clouded over and a storm began to rain down. Thunder and lightening crashed and lit the sky. Adam ran to Kim's side and scooped her up in his arms. "The magic's taken a lot out of her," he said to Scott, who nodded never taking his eyes off of Shelly. Adam carried Kim into the bathroom where he drew a hot bath for her.
"Jeff lookout," Courtney called as she and Shannon deflected the demon away from him.
"Something tells me this is going to be a lot harder than I thought," Stephanie said as she ducked the demon as it flew past her.
Scott was still staring at Shelly when he saw her hand twitch and then she convulsed and began coughing. He went to her side and pulled her up as she continued to gasp and cough.
She looked down at her abdomen where the gaping sword wound had been. All that remained was a hole in her shirt and a huge blood stain. "How did I get here," she asked Scott.
"Kim brought you back," he said softly, not understanding why he was feeling so kind towards a woman who had almost killed him. "You were dead."
Shelly looked at him in disbelief and then shook her head. "What about the demon," she asked finally. "I failed."
"No," Scott said. "You didn't. You were very brave."
"Scott," she said softly. "Hold me. I can't get warm."
He nodded and pulled her close to him. "You were very brave. You gave your life to try to save your friends," he said in her ear. She pulled away from him and looked up into his eyes.
"Scott," she said. "Were...we in love?" The question took him by surprise a moment and he looked away. "I'm sorry," she said. "I can't remember things the right way. I remember being in love, but not who it was."
"Yes," he said wondering why he was lying to a woman he had loathed not too long ago. "Yes we were," he said suddenly wanting to feel her lips pressed against his. He leaned down and brought her lips to his.
He helped her up and out of the room to search for the demon. He kept his arms around her and placed gentle kissed on her temple as they walked.
"What's he doing," Mystic asked Matt as they hid behind a potted plant.
"I don't know," Matt replied. "But I have a feeling I know who did it to him."
"Look out," Trish yelled as the demon jumped at Steph and Kidman. It pinned the both of them to the ground and growled in their faces.
"Oh demon boy," they all heard and turned to see Shelly standing there. The demon growled seeing the woman he had just killed and jumped at her. She ducked and it went flying into the wall.
"But how," Trish began.
"You should know better than to question the supernatural," Jeff said smiling as he watched Shelly in hand to hand combat with the demon. "Shelly," he yelled and tossed the sword to her.
The door to Kim's room burst open and Matt and Mystic stormed in. "Where is he," she demanded. "Where is Scott witch?!"
"He left with Shelly," Adam said standing in front of Kim to try to protect her.
"That witch," Matt hissed. "She did it to him. She made him....I can't even say it!"
"What are you talking about," Adam asked.
"She's a very powerful witch," Mystic said. "She turned you back to a repulsive human and she's done the same to Scott. She got revenge for him turning you into a vampire."
Adam looked at Kim. "Is that true," he asked.
"Not completely. I did turn you back to a human," she said. "Scott is still a vampire...he's just....harmless now."
"What do you mean," Adam asked.
"He's like Jeff now. He's got a soul."
"Stupid witch," Mystic yelled and lunged at Kim. With a flick of her wrist Mystic flew into a chair, shattering it. With another flick of her wrist splinters of the chair flew through the air and plunged into Mystic and Matt's flesh, both splinters barely avoiding their hearts
"This isn't over witch," Matt said as he scooped his lover into his arms. Her wound was much worse than his. He carried her out of the room before more damage could be done.
Shelly caught the sword that Jeff had tossed her and swung it just as the demon lunged at her. It sliced right through the demon's flesh and Shelly was thrown against the wall as an electric shock traveled from the wound and up the sword. The demon shrieked and began what sounded like chanting. The floor began to ripple as if someone had thrown a stone in water and a portal opened and began to slowly grow.
"This is what the prophecy was warning about," Trish yelled over the shrieking chant. "If this portal is allowed to grow it will envelope the whole world."
The growing portal edged closer and closer to where Shelly was standing. Before she could fall in Scott pulled her back. She buried her head in his chest and allowed him to hold her. Jeff's heart sunk when he saw her actions. Scott? Why would she cling to Scott?
"Looks like you need some help," Tammi said as she, Chris, Hunter and Trouble got to the crowd watching the portal. "What are you all staring at? Kill the damn thing!" When no one moved she huffed and walked up to the demon trying to push it into the portal. It moved and she stumbled almost falling into it herself. Chris happened to catch her just in time and Trouble and Hunter pulled them away from the edge.
"How the hell are we supposed to kill that damn thing," Tammi yelled once she had her footing.
"Only one way to do it," Jeff said never taking his eyes off of Shelly and Scott on the other side of the portal. The closer she held onto Scott the more his heart broke.
"You can't be serious," Trish said reading his mind. "She was just resurrected from the dead. Her head isn't right. Don't do this Jeff."
"I know she'll do it if I don't," Jeff said grimly. "I don't think I could bear losing her again."
"But Jeff," Trish began and was cut off by Hunter.
"Let the freaking sap do it! I don't know about you, but I sure as hell don't want to be enveloped in a hell demension for the rest of my existence. If he wants to do it then let him."
"Jeff you're not thinking rationally," Courtney said. "You have no idea what happened with her to make her cling to Scott that way."
"I don't want to know," Jeff said finally taking his eyes off of Shelly and looking at his friends. "I don't belong here," he said with a sad smile. "I never did. The best thing she did for me was killing me. At least then my pain was over." He sighed deeply and watched the portal slowly edging closer and closer to them. "I have to do this." He pushed all his friends away from the growing edge of the portal and made eye contact with Shelly across the way.
Shelly's eyes were drawn to Jeff's green ones. The pain she saw in them made her heart break. She had no idea why, but she felt a deep connection with him. She felt like they had been lovers in a past life.
He nodded to her and closed his eyes as he prepared to end the demon's reign of terror. With a war cry that was almost inhuman he ran full force at the demon and shoved it into the portal. The demon shrieked and latched onto Jeff's ankle pulling him with it. They all had to cover their eyes as a bright flash erupted from the portal and it closed with an explosive bang.
When Shelly pulled her face out of Scott's chest she saw that the hall was completely normal again, except for her bruised and battered friends. She was overcome with grief for the young rainbow haired man that gave his life for them. Not fully understanding the feelings she had she clung to Scott for support. She glanced at Trish, Amy, Courtney, Shannon, Storm, Shane, Steph and Kidman and wondered why they were giving her such a strange look.
"He did this for you," Trish said once she was face to face with Shelly. "He died because he loved you." With that she walked away with the others following her.
"What did she mean," Shelly asked Kim and Adam. Adam, who had missed the whole romance when he became vampire, just shrugged.
Kim placed a hand on Shelly's shoulder and sighed. "I'll tell you later," was all she could say. Let's go get cleaned up." She glared at Scott. "I suggest you crawl back under the rock you were living under." With that said she took Adam's hand and left.
"I won't judge what's going on between the two of you," Joxy said softly as she and Glenn passed Shelly and Scott. "I can't even begin to imagine what happened when Kim brought you back. For all we know you're completely changed, but what I do know is that Jeff died because he loved you so much and didn't want you to die again." She patted Shelly's shoulder. "I hope you get your memory back soon because I know that Jeff loved you with all his soul." Jazz offered a sad smile to Shelly as she followed Joxy and Glenn. Stephanie, Rey, Emily and Kevin just walked right past them without giving them a second look.
"Welcome to the dark side," Chris said clapping Shelly on the back.
She glared up at him. "I don't know what the hell you're talking about, but if you don't take your hands off of me I'll make you wish you had no hands."
"Still fiesty," Hunter laughed. "Ya got your hands full with this one Scott." He slid his arm around Trouble's waist and led her away. Tammi gave Shelly an evil glare before taking Chris' hand and leading him away. Shelly looked at Scott thoroughly confused. He just slid a protective arm around her shoulders and led her back to his room.
Shelly had not said a word since Jeff had closed the portal. She knew she felt something deep for him, but still had no memory as to why. She sighed and wrapped her arms around herself as she watched the rain pelting the window pane. She turned around and saw that Scott was still sound asleep buried under the covers. She had been unable to sleep and had been staring blankly out of the window for the past few hours. She had seen the sun rise and now as it began to descend Scott stirred and poked his head out from under the covers.
"Did you sleep," he asked groggily. She shook her head no. "You should sleep. Dying and coming back takes a lot out of a person."
She sighed and sat down on the bed fingering the shirt and baggy sweats he had loaned her. "I can't sleep. I feel like...a part of me is missing...like I came back wrong."
"You didn't come back wrong," he said smiling.
"Then why do I feel like there's a hole deep inside me," she asked with tears in her eyes.
"Come here," he said and gently pulled her into his arms. He kissed her forehead, her eyes, her cheeks and eventually her lips. She responded wrapping her arms around his neck and deepening the kiss.
He laid her back on the bed still kissing her and began to slowly undress her. She relished in the tenderness of his touch, somehow knowing that he had never been this gentle before. Her mind raced as his lips began to travel down her neck to her chest.
The sensations brought her mind reeling back to a memory she thought had been lost. She remembered doing this with someone before, but that someone wasn't Scott. She forced her mind to focus on who it was that had given her so much pleasure. As she laid there allowing Scott to worship her body she finally got a clear picture in her mind as to who she had done this with before.
"Scott," she croaked, realizing why she had felt so connected to Jeff now. "Scott stop," she said pushing him away and pulled the shirt back on.
"What is it," he asked breathlessly.
"You lied to me," she said. "You told me that we were in love. We were never in love. I was in love with Jeff."
"Please understand," he began.
"Understand what? That you took advantage of the fact that I had no memories? How dare you!" She slapped him hard across the face.
"I just thought that maybe you would be able to love me," Scott said.
"After all the shit you've done in the past?"
"I know I'm not the perfect gentleman," Scott said. "But Jeff was hardly a saint himself and you loved him."
"You have no idea what Jeff and I shared," Shelly said. "You can never understand what we shared."
"You knew him a couple of days and you're that deeply in love," he scoffed.
"Don't you dare berate what I had with Jeff," she yelled. "I never should have trusted you. You're nothing but a monster. That's all you're ever going to be." With that she walked out of the room, slamming the door behind her.
"So, how are things with Scott," Trish asked as she and a few of the others hung out in the gym with Shelly.
"I remember all about Jeff," Shelly replied trying hard not to let the tears fall. "Scott was a huge mistake and it's over now. Not that anything really happened between us besides a couple of shares kisses." She wiped her eyes and looked at her friends. "I wish I hadn't hurt Jeff so much before he...." Her voice trailed off as the tears came now. Trish, Amy and Kim all hugged her as she cried.
"This isn't over bitch," Matt said from his spot in the shadows. He held Mystic tightly in his arms. Her right side was still lame from her injury. "This is far from over."
